Argos Head Coach Ryan Dinwiddie and Wr Kurleigh Gittens Jr Named Finalists for CFL Awards

TORONTO – The Canadian Football League announced today that Argonauts Head Coach Ryan Dinwiddie and WR Kurleigh Gittens Jr. have been named East Division nominees for Coach of the Year and Most Outstanding Canadian, respectively. Nominees were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.

The 2022 CFL Awards will be handed out Thursday, November 17, 2022 in Regina during Grey Cup week.

Dinwiddie was named head coach of the Boatmen in late 2019 and had to wait a year and a half to coach his first game after a cancelled 2020 season. He made up for lost time by being named a Coach of the Year finalist in his first two seasons at the helm of the 17-time Grey Cup champions. After taking a 4-14 team in 2019 to nine wins (in a shortened season) and first place in the East in 2021, Dinwiddie surpassed that with a 11-7 record this season, while once again taking the East Division crown and hosting a playoff game. The California native who started coaching in 2013 as an offensive assistant in Montreal, has led Toronto to back-to-back East Division wins for the first time since 1996-1997 and the first 11-win campaign since 2013.

Gittens Jr., Toronto ‘s nominee for this award in 2021 as well, had an outstanding campaign in 2022 having hauled in 81 catches for 1,101 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs by a wide margin. The third-year Argo is fifth in receptions league-wide, sixth in receiving yards, first in yards after the catch and tied for seventh in touchdown receptions. Gittens Jr. also leads the Argos in every major statistical receiving category. The Ottawa native led all Canadian receivers in yards and receptions and is only the fourth Canadian pass-catcher to have 1,000 receiving yards in a season in the last decade.
