He’s back: Argos sign Shawn Lemon

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts announced today the club has signed International DE Shawn Lemon.

Lemon, an eight-year CFL veteran, comes back to Toronto where he was an East All-Star in 2016 and helped win a Grey Cup a year later in 2017. The 30-year-old arrived in Toronto via trade with Saskatchewan one game into 2016, recording 14 sacks (2nd best in the league) in 16 games for the Double Blue that season. The product of the University of Maryland broke into the CFL with Saskatchewan in 2011 before moving to Edmonton in 2012. After signing with Calgary in 2013, Lemon had a breakout season for the Stamps a year later tallying 13 sacks (2nd in the CFL) and eight forced fumbles (led the league) in 18 games as Calgary went on to the win the Grey Cup in 2014. The native of Charleston, South Carolina spent the 2015 off-season in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers before signing with Ottawa in September. Lemon spent 2018 with Toronto and B.C. after a trade and recorded his third double-digit sack season after taking down the quarterback 11 times in 18 games, as well as a league-leading 48 QB pressures. Over 93 CFL games, Lemon has racked up 132 defensive tackles, 61 sacks and 19 forced fumbles.
