TORONTO – The Argonauts returned home in week nine, facing off against their East Division foes in the Ottawa REDBLACKS. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with quarterbacks Henry Burris and Trevor Harris combining for over 600-yards of passing offence. After seizing their first half-time lead of the season, the Argonauts held on to a slim three-point lead, and won their sixth game of the season by a score of 27-24.

The game appeared to begin with disaster for the Argos, as a rare Trevor Harris interception was taken to the house by DB Jovon Johnson on Toronto’s second drive of the game. Luckily for the Boatmen, a REDBLACKS offside negated the play, taking seven points off the board.

But it was still Ottawa who struck first in this one, as former Argo RB Jeremiah Johnson punched the ball in on a three-yard scamper. REDBLACKS QB Henry Burris made quick work of the Argonauts defence on the drive, finding WR Ernest Jackson twice for 77 yards prior to the score.

The Argonauts’ following drive ended with a punt, and K/P Swayze Waters made his return to the field known with a huge downfield tackle on return man Chris Williams.

It wouldn’t be long before Toronto answered with a touchdown of their own, as Trevor Harris found WR Kevin Elliott for the 15-yard major to even the score at 7-7. Elliott missed week eight with an upper-body injury, and it was a positive sign to see the first-year Argonaut making an impact early in week nine. SB Anthony Coombs also showed some of the flair the Argos expected when they drafted him third overall in 2014, breaking ankles on his way to a 23-yard gain to set up the Elliott touchdown.
