Training Camp Diary: Day 15

Argonauts.ca staff

TORONTO – Sunday marked the first day back on the field in pads after a yoga session on Saturday, and also represented the first session after eight were released on Saturday ahead of the mandatory roster cut-down tonight at midnight.

It was also the first day on the field for newly-signed quarterback Adrian McPherson, who joins the Argos after spending five years as Anthony Calvillo’s backup in Montreal. McPherson was signed after head coach Scott Milanovich expressed his desire to bring in a veteran QB with Ricky Ray’s status uncertain.

With training camp now two-thirds completed, the mood during practice has hardened as the intensity of each session increases. During team period LB James Yurichuk received major props from his defensive teammates and coaches after successfully shutting down SB Andre Durie in pass coverage. Meanwhile, veteran LB Brandon Isaac implored the rest of his unit to “break-in” McPherson with pressure.

Toronto-born WR Kevin Bradfield ran the gamut of football emotion on one route; catching a pass, having it stripped by DB A.J. Jefferson, then somehow recovering the fumble before it hit the ground. Overall, defence dominated the session, preventing the offence from getting into any sort of rhythm.
