Argos Sign Pair Of 2012 Draft Picks

TORONTO–The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is thrilled to announce that two of its 2012 CFL Canadian Draft picks, WR Quincy Hurst (4th Round, 28th Overall) and LB Aaron Crawford (6th Round, 40th Overall), as well as import DL Derrick Summers have all signed contracts with the team through the 2014 season. All three players will be on the field with other Argos rookies this Wednesday afternoon when rookie camp opens in Mississauga.

With the 28th overall pick, the Argonauts drafted speedy receiver Quincy Hurst out of the University of Manitoba. Hurst had 18 receptions for 295 yards and two touchdowns in 2010 while playing for the Bisons. The versatile player also returned 26 kickoffs for 528 yards and 40 punts for 378 yards as a senior.

Aaron Crawford, a linebacker out of St. Mary’s University, was taken by Toronto in the sixth round (40th overall). In 2011, Crawford was 12th in the AUS in tackles with 33 (25 solo, 16 assisted) and was sixth in the CIS in fumble recoveries with two.

As a member of the 2011 Jacksonville Sharks of the AFL, Summers played in 18 games, recording 27 tackles, 11 sacks and six forced fumbles. He led the team in sacks, tackles for a loss and forced fumbles. The former University of Toledo standout also impressed in his four years there playing 36 games (17 starts) recording a total of 136 tackles (54 solo) and five sacks.

The Toronto Argonauts announced today that non-import OL Donnie McKenzie has been released.
