TORONTO – With the 2012 CFL draft approaching on Thursday, May 3, 2012, here is a look at how the draft breaks down by round and by pick for the Argos.

 ROUND ONE – No Picks

After trading away their first round pick in last year’s draft, the Argos followed the same pattern this time around.  In a trade that sent shockwaves across the CFL, the Argos traded away their second overall pick in this year’s draft, QB Steven Jyles and K Grant Shaw for two-time Grey Cup Champion quarterback Ricky Ray.

 ROUND TWO – 9th Overall

As a result of Winnipeg forfeiting their 7th overall pick in the first round by virtue of choosing Central Michigan receiver Kito Poblah in the 2011 Supplemental Draft, Toronto moves up one spot to pick 9th overall.

 ROUND THREE – No Picks

The Argos don’t have any picks in the third round as a result of the trade to with Winnipeg that originally brought Jyles to Toronto. The pick was initially a fourth rounder but was upgraded to a third round selection because of the amount of games that Jyles played with the Argonauts in 2011.

 ROUND FOUR – 24th Overall, 28th Overall

The fourth round is where Toronto will have a couple of picks to work with. The Argonauts moved from 26th to 24th in the draft as a result of Winnipeg’s aforementioned forfeiting pick and Edmonton forfeiting their 14th selection in the second round by virtue of choosing Mississippi defensive lineman Ted Laurent in the 2011 Supplemental Draft.

The Boatmen also moved up to 28th from 30th as a result of the forfeited picks mentioned above. The Argonauts originally acquired this pick from the Edmonton Eskimos in a trade that sent Import DB Delroy Clarke in 2011.

 ROUND FIVE – 36th Overall, 38th Overall

In this round, the Argonauts will draft with the 32nd pick which was moved up from 34th as a result of the forfeited picks mentioned above.

ROUND SIX- 40th Overall, 41st Overall

The Double blue will conclude the draft by picking back to back with the 40th and 41st pick. The Argonauts moved up from 42nd and 43rd respectively as a result of the forfeited picks mentioned above. They acquired their second pick in the sixth round when they traded non-import TE/SB Steve Schmidt to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2010.
