Fan Blog: ‘the Real Bosses’

CHRIS & WENDY VAN STRATEN
Special to Argonauts.ca

True Argo die-hards, Wendy and Chris Van Straten will be blogging throughout Grey Cup week as they represent the Double Blue in Calgary.

Friday was another non-stop festival day. We began with the State of the League with Commissioner Mark Cohon. Two hundred faithful CFL fans packed the room to hear the commissioner. There was tremendous energy and enthusiasm in the room, as he reported to his ‘real bosses’, the fans of the CFL.

In addition to fielding questions, he honoured Ethel, a 78-year-old Rider fan who attended every Rider Game this year – both home and away.

From the session with the commish, we headed for the ‘CFL Experience’ and helped out at the Argonaut booth handing out invitations to the Wiser’s Double Blue Bash on Saturday. We definitely got a lot more interest from passers by when Adriano Belli joined us in the booth.

From there it was off to Touchdown Manitoba. As we were walking down the street we met up with Angelo Mosca and had a great chat reminiscing about his career.

Upon arriving at Touchdown Manitoba we were approached for pictures because apparently we were the first Argo fans that some people had seen. We found that hard to believe because there are a lot of us here.  Winnipeg coach Mike Kelly, Milt Stegall, Doug Brown and rookie of the year runner up, Jonathan Hefney addressed the group and joined the party.

We decided to scope out The Unicorn where our Double Blue Bash is scheduled for tomorrow. The pub was crowded with friendly Calgarians and CFL fans.

Our nephew, who lives in Calgary, joined us and after a long evening of socializing we headed back to the hotel to get some rest.
