True Argo die-hards, Wendy and Chris Van Straten will be blogging throughout Grey Cup week as they represent the Double Blue in Calgary.
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 – 10:00 a.m. – Four days, eight hours and 30 minutes to kick off but only 21 hours and 15 minutes until our flight leaves for Canada’s Game and Calgary’s Party as well as the 2009 the Grey Cup Festival. At 7:15 a.m. on Thursday we will be on the way with our friends Carol and Kahlid.
Although our team will not be there this year, we will proudly wear the Double Blue and continue to promote our team and organization as the best in the league to all who wish to listen and especially to those who don’t want to hear it. We are Argonauts fans and nothing can change that. The team didn’t have a great season, but we still have a great team and committed, talented players to support.
The Grey Cup Festival experience is a unique one where CFL fans of all ages, from all walks of life, from all parts of Canada and the U.S. gather to celebrate our truly Canadian game. It is a time to reconnect with CFL friends; those people from other parts of the Canada and the U.S. who we see every year at Grey Cup and occasionally at other times if they come into town for a game or when we go to an away game. We will celebrate all that is good about our league and our game, we will commiserate if our teams are not in Calgary and, before the weekend is over, we will bemoan the long winter ahead and the long wait for training camp to signal a new season.
Right now, however it’s time to transfer the Argo pins from the shirt to the scarf; to dust off the blue Stetsons; to pack; to begin the intricate planning of how to fit in as many Grey Cup Festival Events as possible. We look forward to being in Calgary at this time tomorrow and to begin celebrating our league and our game with the greatest fans in the world.
