Greening The Grey Cup

CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

TORONTO – It’s third down and a reduced footprint to go for the CFL Green Drive at this year’s Grey Cup.

For the third consecutive year, our league is working with fans to green Canada’s largest single day sporting event.

“We can have a great time, and fulfill our shared responsibility to reduce the impact such a massive event has on the environment, at the same time,” said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League. “That’s the message behind the CFL Green Drive.”

The CFL working with its Green Drive partners will:
– Offset carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions caused by CFL staff traveling to Calgary by purchasing and retiring carbon credits.
– Offset the energy used to light the Grey Cup game, resulting in a carbon neutral event.
– Minimize the amount of waste directed to landfill through an in-stadium recycling program.
– Reduce carbon emissions by sharing rides to the game and Grey Cup events.

Here are some simple things fans can do:
– Reduce waste and recycle when you can.
– Turn off the lights and appliances when you’re not using them
– Turn down your heat when you’re not home and at night
– Conserve water by reducing shower time
– If travelling by air, neutralize your flight emissions. Go to https://www.zerofootprintoffsets.com to learn how.
