ALEX RUSSELL – Director of Football Operations, National Scout

Russell joined the Argos in March 2019 after starting his CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

With the Argos, the Ancaster, Ontario native has been continually adding responsibilities to his portfolio. He began as the team’s Coordinator of Football Operations before being promoted in 2021 to Manager of Football Operations, then in 2022 to Director of Football Operations and National Scout.

Last year he won his first Grey Cup ring.

Russell is the football operations lead man on salary cap tracking. He works on contracts and continues to have an increased role in scouting and player evaluations.

He began his CFL career by volunteering at the 2013 CFL Combine.

After working with the Tim Horton’s Field operations team, he returned to his alma mater, Western University, where he became the Manager of Operations/Social Media Coordinator for the men’s varsity basketball team.

Three seasons later he’d return to Hamilton as the Tiger-Cats Coordinator of Football Administration. Soon afterward he became the team’s Coordinator of Football Operations.

The Bishop Tonnos Secondary School graduate earned his bachelor’s degree at Western, appearing on the Dean’s Honours List.  He earned his business administration degree (honours) from the Ivey Business School at Western. Russell was a member of the Mustangs varsity cross-country team.
