College: Attended the University of Akron (2007-10). Played 41 games. Recorded 102 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 6 forced fumbles and 11 sacks. Named All-MAC in his senior season after posting 7 sacks.

Personal: Born in Charleston, South Carolina. Went to Westlake High School in Waldorf, Maryland, where he broke the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference record with 21 sacks. Was named Second Team Maryland Big School All-State as a senior, recording 97 tackles that season. Also ran track and played basketball at Westlake, where he was on the honour roll. Played alongside his older brother Marcus at Akron for the 2008 season.
