Acquired: Acquired from the Edmonton Eskimos along with a third-round 2018 draft pick in exchange for OL Mason Woods.

2018: Dressed for all 18 games with the Argos, started eight. Made first start July 7th in win over Edmonton. Started four consecutive games, then started the final four games of the year. Passed for 2,034 yards, eight TDs and nine INTs. Set Argos single-season record with 14 rushing TDs, breaking the previous record held by Gill Fenerty and Robert Drummond. He also tied Doug Flutie’s CFL record for most rushing TDs by a quarterback in one season.

2017: Dressed all 18 games for Edmonton. Finished with 142 passing yards with two TDs. Playoffs: Dressed as a backup for both the West Semi-Final and West Final.

2016: Dressed In 17 games. Named a CFL Top Performer of the Week for Week 20. Playoffs: Dressed for East Final at Hamilton. Completed two of his four passing attempts for 19 yards. Dressed in East final at Ottawa, but recorded no stats.

2015: Signed as a free agent with Edmonton April 28. Released and signed to practice roster June 20th. Dressed in 17 games, started two. Made his career start Week 10 against the Argos and was named CFL Player of the Week. Playoffs: Dressed for West final, recorded no stats. 103rd Grey Cup: Dressed in win over Ottawa, recorded no stats.

2014: Signed with Detroit Lions May 12, released August 25.

College: Played 42 games over four seasons at Missouri. Threw for 6,692 yards and 51 TDs, rushed for 1,729 yards and 21 touchdowns. MVP of the 2011 Independence Bowl. Academic All-Big 12 Second Team in 2011. 2011 Team Underclassman Leadership Award.

Personal: His father Willie was a star tight end at Oklahoma and played with the Baltimore Colts. James played high school ball at Corinth in Dallas, Texas. As a senior he passed for 2,360 yards and rushed for another 1,282, accounting for 41 TDs. Was a Class 4A Second Team All-State selection and District 5-4A MVP in his senior year.
