Acquired: Signed as a free agent June 28, 2021. 

2020: Played with St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL). Played five games. Had 36 tackles – tied for third in the league – and one sack. 

2019: Signed by Los Angeles Chargers January 2, released January 21…Signed with Calgary Stampeders October 22. Played two games. Had two tackles and an interception. Playoffs: Had four defensive tackles and two special teams tackles in West Final loss to Winnipeg. Released November 25.  

2018: Released by San Francisco 49ers October 9.  

2017: Waived by Los Angeles Chargers October 7…Claimed off waivers by San Francisco October 9. Played 10 games. Finished with five tackles.  

2016: Signed with San Diego Chargers January 12. Played 16 games. Recorded 25 tackles and one interception. Made NFL debut September 11 at Kansas City. His first NFL interception came November 27 at Houston against Brock Osweiler on the game’s final play to clinch a 21-13 win. 

2015: Played 18 games with Edmonton. Recorded 71 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and a forced fumble. Named West Division All-Star for a second time. Playoffs: Had three tackles and intercepted a Bo Levi Mitchell pass in a West Final win over Calgary. 103rd Grey Cup: Had three tackles and a sack in 26-20 win over Ottawa. Released by Edmonton December 7. 

2014: Played with LA Kiss in Arena Football League. Played five games. Returned one interception 14 yards for a touchdown…Signed with Edmonton May 31. Played 18 games. Named CFL Most Outstanding Rookie. Named Edmonton’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Named CFL All-Star at linebacker. Recorded 63 tackles, four sacks, and six interceptions. Made CFL debut June 28 at B.C. and recorded his first career interception off Kevin Glenn. His first CFL sack came July 17 against Drew Willy at Winnipeg. Scored two touchdowns; the first August 23 against Toronto when Odell Willis intercepted a Ricky Ray pass then lateralled to McCoil who ran to the end zone, the other came October 13 against Winnipeg after Odell Willis sacked Drew Willy causing a fumble which McCoil recovered and returned 77 yards for the score. He also had two interceptions in the August 23 game against Toronto. Playoffs: Had five tackles, a sack, and an interception in West Semi-Final win over Saskatchewan. Had four tackles in West Final loss at Calgary. 

College: Attended the University of Tulsa (2009-12). Played 51 games. Recorded 315 tackles and 18 interceptions, still the school record. First Team All-Conference USA as a senior, Second Team as a junior, Honourable Mention as a sophomore and All-Freshman in his first year. Named Tulsa’s MVP of the 2011 Armed Forces Bowl with a 10 tackle, two interception game. 

Personal: Attended Lutcher High School in Lutcher, Louisiana. Played on two state championship teams. Played both ways, lining up as a tight end on offense. Recorded 343 tackles with six interceptions. Named District MVP as a senior. Was All-District, All-Metro and All-River District in both his junior and senior seasons. Was Honourable Mention All-State as a senior.
