Argos Unveil 2019 Schedule

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced on Thursday the team’s schedule for the 2019 season.

The Argos’ regular season will open against the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, June 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. ET, the 234th time these two rival clubs have faced off since 1950.

Touchdown Atlantic! The Toronto Argonauts are heading East to The Maritimes to take on the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday, August 25th. The Double Blue are no stranger to playing on the East Coast, having hosted Edmonton in Moncton, New Brunswick at Moncton Stadium in front over 20,000 fans on September 26, 2010. Toronto also played a preseason game vs. Hamilton in Halifax, Nova Scotia back in 2005. As the league looks to grow the game of Canadian football from coast to coast and with the possibility of a 10th expansion team on the horizon, the Argos are honoured and excited to host a game in The Maritimes.

Other highlights from the 2019 home schedule:

  • Under the lights: Toronto will play seven of its eight home games at BMO Field at night; three on Saturday nights, three on Friday nights and one on a Thursday night. The last home game of the year is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff vs. BC.
  • The 2019 home opener vs. Hamilton is the fourth time since 2013 that the Argos have hosted the Ti-Cats on opening day.
  • The Argos call BMO Field home for the fourth consecutive year and will have a new playing surface to get excited about. A new grass surface, strengthened with intertwined artificial fibres that help protect and hold the surface together as well as reduce recovery time between events, will be in place before the Argos take the field for their home opener.
  • Four of Toronto’s final seven games come at the friendly confines of BMO Field.
  • The return of the CNE game! The Argos welcome the Edmonton Eskimos to BMO Field on Friday, August 16th, at 7:30 p.m. Free admission to the CNE included with the purchase of a game ticket.
  • Bye weeks in Week #1, Week #9 and Week #14.

Additional notes from the full schedule:

  • The Argos will open their road schedule against the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the second year in a row and fourth time since 2015 when they travel to Regina in Week 3 for a Canada Day tilt. This is the first game Toronto has played on Canada Day since a 2011 win on the road vs. Calgary.
  • Weeks five to seven will see Toronto travel West for three straight road games vs. Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton. 2015 was the last time Toronto played three straight West teams on the road.
  • The September 2nd game vs. Hamilton will be the 49th chapter of the Labour Day Classic between the two rivals as the Boatmen look to win their first LDC since 2012.
  • The Montreal Alouettes are the lone East Division team that the Argos will square off with just twice for the first time in three seasons.
  • The back half of the season figures to have major playoff implications, with six of the nine games against East Division opponents. The final four games of the season come against the East.
