On Wednesday the CFL released the full negotiation list for every team. Up to 45 players can be on the list, which is updated often with names being dropped, added, or traded.
Argonauts.ca provides a look at 10 players on Toronto’s current list. Current Argos previously featured in these writeups include Chad Kelly, Deonta McMahon, Tarvarus McFadden, and Derek Parish.

Jason Bean: QB, Indianapolis Colts
He’s been on the Argos neg list for a couple of years. The Colts signed him as an undrafted free agent last season, and he spent the year on their practice squad.
Bean took advantage of an injury to Jalon Daniels to receive additional starts at Kansas, and looked good in his opportunities, most notably throwing for 410 yards and 5 TDs in a game against Oklahoma State.
Bean was the first-overall pick in the 2024 UFL Draft but opted to sign with Indy.
Peny Boone: RB, Free Agent
A 6’1”, 235-pound downhill runner who had a 1,400-yard, 15-touchdown season with Toledo in 2023, leading to his selection as the MAC Offensive Player of the Year.
He transferred to Central Florida last season and had fewer touches. He was not selected in the NFL draft and is currently a free agent.

Sydney Brown: DB, Philadelphia Eagles
No, the frontrunner to start at strong safety for the Super Bowl champs won’t be on the Argos roster this year, or in the foreseeable future. This is a roll of the dice, just in case he was to shake free at some point.
The London, Ontario product was not drafted in the CFL, therefore he’s eligible to be placed on the negotiation list. Brown was recently at the Argos home game against Saskatchewan to support Isaac Darkangelo, his teammate at the University of Illinois.
Willie Drew Jr: DB, D.C. Defenders (UFL)
The defensive back signed with the Argos in September 2024 but was released the day following the team’s Grey Cup win. He ended up playing with the UFL’s DC Defenders, where he won a championship.
Drew Jr. was an All-Conference player at Virginia State, picking off 11 passes in 28 games with the Trojans.

Jayden Harrison: WR/RET, Notre Dame
His career highlight happened in this year’s Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, when he returned the opening kickoff of the second half 98 yards for a touchdown. He played at Vanderbilt and Marshall before joining the Fighting Irish last year.
He was not selected in this year’s NFL Draft and is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Kevin Jennings: QB, SMU
He’ll be back with the Mustangs as a redshirt junior this season. He was a starter for the first time in 2024 and was named Third Team All-ACC, passing for over 3,200 yards and 23 touchdowns. He added 354 rushing yards with 5 TDs.
He’s 6’0”, 185 pounds he’s on the smallish side by NFL standards but will certainly draw interest when his NCAA career is done.

Tyron Johnson: WR, NFL Free Agent
Now 29 years old, Johnson has been with nine NFL teams, recording 23 catches in 26 games. He scored three touchdowns in his rookie season with the Chargers in 2020. Johnson was most recently with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
A 6’1” receiver, Johnson started his NCAA career with LSU before transferring to Oklahoma State. In 25 games with the Cowboys, he caught 71 passes for 1,138 yards with 10 touchdowns.

Shedeur Sanders: QB, Cleveland Browns
Another dice roll. Sanders first appeared on the Argos neg list in 2021 when he was a freshman at Jackson State. His name was subsequently taken off the list as it became apparent he was heading to the NFL.
He was placed back on the list the night of the NFL Draft as he dropped to the fifth round. The Cleveland quarterback situation is a huge question right now, so what lies in Sanders future is anyone’s guess.

Matthew Sluka: QB, James Madison
After three outstanding seasons at Holy Cross, he transferred to UNLV last season. After leading the team to a 3-0 start, he left the program after claiming some NIL commitments to him were not fulfilled. Leaving after three games allowed him to redshirt last year and he signed with James Madison in January.
A 6’3” QB with a strong arm and great wheels, he rushed for over 1,200 yards in each of his final two seasons at Holy Cross. He will likely get some NFL interest.
Elijah Williams: DL, Minnesota Vikings
A dominant force at Morgan State, he was invited to the Minnesota Vikings minicamp as an undrafted free agent. He impressed them so much he was signed and invited to the main training camp.
The 6’3”, 270-pounder was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and received multiple awards from several outlets. In a dozen games in his senior season, he racked up 11 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.
