TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts announced today that the club has signed a trio of free agents.
Defensive back Tommie Campbell joins the Argos after spending the last two years in Montreal, the previous two in Calgary. Last season with the Alouettes he played in 16 games, finishing with 66 tackles, three interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles. He would be named a divisional All-Star for the second time in his career. He was a CFL All-Star with Calgary in 2016.
Prior to coming to the CFL, the 32-year-old native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania spent a combined five seasons in the NFL with Tennessee and Jacksonville.
The 6’3”, 203-pound Campbell, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, will be a key component of the Argos secondary.
“He’s a very good fit for how we plan to play,” said Argos Vice President of Player Personnel John Murphy. “What we’re asking him to do he’ll ideally fit in. We know how productive he’s been.”
The Double Blue also welcome receiver Natey Adjei back to the family.
Selected with the Argos third round pick (22nd overall) in the 2013 CFL draft, Adjei spent the first two seasons of his career in Toronto before heading to Edmonton.
Last season he had 58 catches for 534 yards and two touchdowns for the Eskimos, all career highs.
Adjei, 30, returns home. He’s a Mississauga native who played at St. Joseph Secondary School. He’d play at City College of San Francisco before transferring to the University of Buffalo.
Also heading to Toronto is defensive lineman Obinna Iheoma.
The Northwestern State product graduated in 2018 after spending two seasons at Tyler Junior College.
The 6’2”, 245-pound native of Grand Prairie, Texas recorded eight sacks in each of his two seasons with the Demons.
The club has also released receiver Alex Charette.
