Argos add a pair of American DBs

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts announced today the club has signed American DB’s Shaquille Richardson and Jalin Burrell to the practice roster.

Richardson, 27, most recently spent time with the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football in 2019 after spending the 2018 offseason with the Oakland Raiders. The Compton, California native is a two-year CFL veteran after playing 27 games over two seasons (2016-2017) for the Calgary Stampeders tallying 60 tackles, 14 special teams tackles, one sack, four interceptions and one touchdown. The defensive back was a fifth-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014 and spent the next two years with Kansas City, Arizona, Tennessee and Carolina of the NFL.

The former University of Arizona Wildcat played 49 games over four seasons (2010-2013) for the PAC-12 school, compiling 186 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and 10 interceptions.

Burrell, 23, was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in May of this year but waived a month later. The product of New Mexico State played two seasons for the Lobos (2017-2018) where he racked up 105 total tackles, one interception and 16 passes defended. Prior to his two years with NMSU, the California native played two seasons at Moorpark College.
