Bethel-Thompson and Green named CFL Top Performers

TORONTO – Argonauts QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson and WR S.J. Green have been named CFL Top Performers for Week 8.

Bethel-Thompson, a second-year Argo, started his first CFL regular-season game and had a debut to remember Thursday night in a come-from-behind win over Ottawa, 42-41 at BMO Field.

The veteran who has spent time with 13 professional football teams since 2011 spanning the Arena Football League, NFL, United Football League and the CFL, completed 25-of-37 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns including a go-ahead 23-yard touchdown pass to Armanti Edwards with one second left on the clock, sealing a 24-point comeback victory for the Double Blue. With only two CFL regular-season pass attempts to his name previous to Thursday, the California native had a night to remember and a debut that will go down in history.

Green, in his second season with Toronto and 12th CFL season overall, turned back the clock once again hauling in nine receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns. The 33-year-old is coming off his most productive season as a pro and has shown no signs of slowing down in 2018 as he leads the league in targets (67), sits eighth in receiving yards (419) and fourth in receptions (37). After starting the year 44th on the All-Time CFL receiving yards list, the South Florida product has moved up 12 spots and is now ranked 32nd. This is Green’s first CFL Top Performer award this season after winning the honour four times in 2017.
