Argos sign receiver Rodney Smith

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts announced today that the team has signed international wide receiver Rodney Smith.

Smith, 28, has spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns since being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings in 2013. He played in four regular-season games between Minnesota and Cleveland. In 2017 NFL preseason action with the Seahawks, the 6-6, 219-pound native of Miami, Florida, tallied two receptions for 43 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown.

Smith played his collegiate football at Florida State University, starting in 34 of his 48 games with the team. In four seasons with the Seminoles – two of which he played alongside Argos running back James Wilder Jr. – Smith caught 106 passes for 1,540 yards and 10 touchdowns. On a receiving group loaded with talent, he ranked second in both receptions (36) and receiving yards (561) during his junior season.

The Argos newest receiver will join the rest of the team in the Sunshine State when the team heads to IMG Academy for their 2018 Mini-Camp from April 17-19.
