Argos add six to practice roster

The Toronto Argonauts announced on Wednesday that the team has signed six international players to the practice roster, including quarterbacks Matt Davis and Skyler Howard, wide receiver/kick returner Jonathan Epps, defensive linemen Jeff Luc and Sadat Sulleyman, and running back Romar Morris.

 

Matt Davis | QB

HT: 5-11 WT: 203 Born: November 20, 1993, in Houston, Texas

College: SMU (2014-16), Tyler JUCO (2013), Texas A&M (2012) | Pro Exp: LA Rams (2016 – Rookie Mini-Camp)

Honours: 4X AAC Honor Roll

In 23 games at SMU, Davis totaled 3,269 passing yards and 21 touchdowns on 279-of-517 passing while adding 1,465 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 309 career rushing attempts for the Mustangs. The Houston native and four-time AAC Honour Roll selection set the two highest rushing totals by a quarterback in school history during his sophomore season, running for 191 and a touchdown at Connecticut and another 181 yards and two touchdowns at Tulsa.

 

Jonathan Epps | WR/KR

HT: 5-10 WT: 165 Born: November 10, 1993, in Fort Worth, Texas

College: Abilene Christian (2014-15), Tyler JUCO (2012-13)

Honours: Second-Team All-Southland Conference (2014)

Epps played both sides of the ball at Abilene Christian, seeing time at defensive back and receiver while also returning kickoffs and punts. The Tyler College transfer started two games at corner during his junior season, recording 30 tackles, two tackles for a loss, and two interceptions. Epps made the full-time transition to receiver during his senior season, finishing his time with the Wildcats with 45 receptions for 561 yards and five touchdowns while adding 68 yards on nine carries. An all-conference selection as a return specialist, the Fort Worth native totaled 799 yards on 27 kickoff returns and 350 yards on 25 punt returns.

 

Skyler Howard | QB

HT: 5-11 WT: 208 Born: February 11, 1994, in Fort Worth, Texas

College: West Virginia (2014-16), Riverside CC (2013) | Pro Exp: Seattle Seahawks (UDFA – 2017)

Honours: All-Big 12 Academic (2015), Cactus Bowl Offensive MVP (2015), Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll, Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Howard played in 30 games across three seasons at West Virginia after transferring from Riverside City College. He compiled over 7,000 career passing yards with the Mountaineers while posting 60 touchdowns against just 24 interceptions while adding 1,105 yards and 16 touchdowns on 322 rushing attempts. During his 2016 senior year, the Fort Worth native helped lead the school to its ninth 10-win season behind career-highs in completions (247), passing yards (3,328), completion percentage (61.1) and total touchdowns (36). At Riverside, helped lead the team to a 10-2 record, the National Division Central Conference Championship and an appearance in the California State Championship game.

 

Jeff Luc | DL

HT: 6-1 WT: 251 Born: February 14, 1992, in Port St. Lucie, Florida

College: Cincinnati (2013-14), Florida State (2011-12) | Pro Exp: Miami Dolphins (UDFA – 2015), New Orleans Saints (PR – 2015, TC – 2016), New York Jets (Futures – 2016), Calgary Stampeders (PR – 2016, TC – 2017)

Honours: First-Team All-AAC (2014)

Luc totaled 177 tackles, 16.5 tackles for a loss and eight sacks in just 26 games in two seasons at the University of Cincinnati. The 2014 First-Team All-AAC selection started 13 games at middle linebacker in his senior season with the Bearcats, tying for the FBS lead in forced fumbles (6) and fumble recoveries (4). In two preseason games with the Calgary Stampeders in 2017, Luc tallied one defensive tackle, one special teams tackle and two quarterback pressures.

 

Romar Morris | RB

HT: 5-8 WT: 190 Born: October 21, 1992, in Salisbury, North Carolina

College: North Carolina (2012-15) | Pro Exp: New York Jets (2016 – Mini-Camp, 2017 – TC)

Morris played in 50 games at UNC with 13 career starts, piling up over 1,000 career rushing yards, 499 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns. With time spent at running back and receiver as well as both returner spots, the speedy returner produced over 600 yards in the return game. Morris led his high school to a Class 2-A state championship on the gridiron while personally winning back-to-back state 2-A titles in the 100m and 200m dashes.

 

Sadat Sulleyman | DL

HT: 6-0 WT: 254 Born: October 25, 1992, in Accra, Ghana

College: Portland State University (2012-15) | Pro Exp: Denver Broncos (2016 – UDFA, TC)

Sulleyman played in 34 games at Portland State, compiling 97 tackles, 27 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles at Portland State, including career-highs of 42 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks in his senior season. During four preseason games with the Denver Broncos in 2016, Sulleyman recorded five tackles, two tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, and three quarterback hits.
