Post-Game Notes: Week 13 vs. Edmonton

TALE OF THE GAME: 

  • The Toronto Argonauts returned to BMO Field on Saturday to open their season series with the Edmonton Eskimos. Toronto earned its fifth win of the season by way of a 34-26 victory over the Esks. Saturday’s win marked the Argos first vs. Edmonton since June 27, 2015.
  • Argos RB James Wilder Jr. compiled 257 combined yards (190 rushing, 67 receiving) and a touchdown on 18 touches. Wilder Jr.’s 190 rushing yards slide the FSU product into fourth all-time in Argos history for rushing yards in a single game. His 76-yard touchdown in the third quarter marked the CFL’s longest carry of the season.

 

WORTH NOTING:

  • RB/KR Martese Jackson returned a missed field goal 125 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, the longest such return in the CFL this year. Jackson’s missed field goal returned marked the Argos first since Chad Owens 118-yard missed field goal return on August 8, 2013, in Montreal.
  • Argos receiver Armanti Edwards scored his third touchdown of the season on Saturday night. Edwards finished the night with five catches for 56 yards, the 6th time this season he has recorded at least five catches and 50 yards.
  • LB Marcus Ball led the defence with a total of eight tackles (7 DT, 1 ST). Ball’s seven defensive tackles marked 5 times this season that he has registered 6+ tackles.
  • Argos QB Ricky Ray finished the night 22-of-32 passing for 224 yards and a touchdown vs. the Eskimos. The 15-year veteran currently sits 3rd in the CFL in passing with 3567 yards.
  • The Argos defence held Eskimos runners to 62 yards on 14 attempts, well below their season average of 86.2 yards. Toronto entered the game ranked second in the league in rushing defence, allowing an average of 75.7 rushing yards per game.
  • DB Matt Black recorded his first sack since September 3, 2013, when he took down Mike Reilly in the 4th quarter, effectively ending any chance of a comeback.
