In partnership with the Canadian Football League and the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club is excited to introduce “Flag Football Week” at four City of Toronto Summer Camps during July and August.
This will mark the first time that City of Toronto Summer Camps have included Flag Football as one of the activities they offer.
“Flag football is a great way to introduce kids to the game of football,” said Jason Colero, Director of Education and Community Programs for the Argos. “It’s fun, it’s safe and doesn’t require any equipment beyond a ball and flag football kit. We are excited to work with the City and the CFL to offer this enhanced experience at these four camp locations this year and hope to expand to additional locations next summer.”
“We’re excited to be working with the City of Toronto and the Argonauts on this exciting initiative,” said Eric Noivo, coordinator of Amateur Football Development, CFL. “The Flag Football Camps provide a safe environment that enables youth to learn and apply key football principles such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while also developing the physical skills associated with the sport.”
To help kickoff Flag Football Week at these summer camps, Argonauts defensive backs Johnny Sears Jr. and Rico Murray and offensive lineman Jamal Campbell will be attending the camps to teach kids the fundamentals of football and share their life lessons learned from this great game.
For Jamal, this will be a great experience, as he will be returning to the Grand Ravine Community Centre where he participated in summer camp programs in his youth. Flag Football Week will be held at the following four summer camp locations:
