TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts announced today that the club has signed Canadian defensive tackle Cleyon Laing.

Laing, a 6-3, 280-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, returns to the Double Blue in 2017 after spending time with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins before returning north for the latter half of the 2016 season to sign with the Ottawa REDBLACKS. The Iowa State product appeared in three games with Ottawa last season, including the club’s 104th Grey Cup Championship win.

“We’re excited to have Cleyon back in Double Blue for the 2017 season,” said Argonauts General Manager Jim Popp. “He is a proven player in this league, but more importantly a key addition to our defence and Canadian depth as he gives us ratio flexibility.”

Prior to spending time with the Dolphins and REDBLACKS in 2016, Laing played three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts. In 44 regular season games, he notched 63 defensive tackles, 15 sacks and two forced fumbles. The Argos ninth overall selection in the 2012 CFL Draft had his best career season in 2015 when he posted career highs in tackles (34) and sacks (8).
