TALE OF THE GAME

  • The Toronto Argonauts finished the 2016 season with a record of 5-13, falling 41-17 on the road against the Edmonton Eskimos.
  • Ricky Ray made his 200th career start on Saturday, squaring off against a team led by head coach Jason Maas, the quarterback who Ray replaced for his first career start in Edmonton.
  • In his 200th start, Ray connected on 5-of-5 passes for 52 yards to lead the team to an opening drive score for the second straight game. Ray finished the game with 252 yards and one touchdown – the 296th of his career – on 24-of-30 passing.

WORTH NOTING

  • Brandon Whitaker hit two major milestones in Saturday’s game, breaking the 5,000-yard rushing mark across his CFL career and reaching 1,000 yards in a season for the second time in his eight-year tenure North of the border.
  • Whitaker is just the 41st player in league history to rush for 5,000 yards, and the first Argos running back to hit the 1,000-yard mark in a season since Cory Boyd accomplished the feat in 2011.
  • Whitaker finished the game with four receptions, moving his season total to 81. The Baylor product’s 2016 reception total is second to just Robert Drummond (85, 1997) for a player with 150+ rushing attempts. Whitaker and Drummond are the only two players to record more than 75 receptions and 150 rushing attempts in the same season.
  • Kenny Shaw caught two passes for 44 yards in the Week 20 tilt, giving the Florida State product a total of 79 receptions and 1,004 receiving yards in 2016. Shaw becomes the first Argonaut to record a 1,000-yard receiving season since Chad Owens in 2012.
  • James Yurichuk played in his 144th consecutive game on Saturday, marking eight complete seasons without a missed game for the Brampton native. Yurichuk’s streak is the longest consecutive games played streak in the CFL.
  • Anthony Coombs set a career-high in receiving in the game, recording 79 yards on six receptions to lead the team on Saturday afternoon.
  • Brian Jones caught his first career touchdown in the game’s second quarter, finishing the game with the lone one-yard reception.
  • Lirim Hajrullahu hit his lone field goal attempt in the game, finishing the season with 11 consecutive conversions. It was Hajrullahu’s second streak of 11+ field goals this season and moved his career-high field goal percentage to 88.1 in his first year with the Argos.
