TALE OF THE GAME

  • The Toronto Argonauts lost a back-and-forth road tilt against the streaking Winnipeg Blue Bombers, moving their record to 5-7 on the season.
  • The Argonauts produced a season-high 278 yards on offence in the first half, jumping out to a 22-19 lead on the strength of three passing touchdowns from Dan LeFevour.
  • After the Argos jumped out to a 10-point lead at the start of the second half, the Bombers stormed back with 24 unanswered points to record their seventh straight win.

WORTH NOTING

  • The Argonauts offence continued their success in third-and-short situations, improving to 16-of-17 on the season with Dan LeFevour’s successful first-quarter conversion. The Argos rank second in the league in third-and-short attempts and also hold the highest conversion percentage of any team with at least 10 attempts (94.1%).
  • Dan LeFevour recorded three first-half touchdown passes and added another in the second half, giving the Central Michigan product his first career game with three or more touchdown passes. LeFevour finished the game with 271 passing yards on 22-of-34 passing with four touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 57 rushing yards on 10 carries.
  • Shawn Lemon recorded yet another sack on Saturday, giving him sacks in five consecutive games and a total of seven in those five contests. The first-half sack was the 38th of Lemon’s CFL career and moved him into a tie with BC’s Alex Bazzie for the league lead.
  • Kenny Shaw caught two touchdowns in Saturday’s game, giving the Argos wideout his first career game with multiple touchdowns. Shaw finished the night with six receptions for 90 receiving yards and two touchdowns; he leads all Argos receivers with 58 receptions and 754 receiving yards in 2016.
  • Brandon Whitaker posted his second 100-yard rushing game of the season, totaling 108 in the loss while pushing his season total to 700. Whitaker is now over 1,000 total yards from scrimmage on the season, adding 351 receiving yards on top of his 700 rushing.
  • Diontae Spencer continued his career success against the Bombers, catching five passes for 49 receiving yards and a touchdown on the night. Spencer has averaged 7.5 receptions and 94 receiving yards per game in four games against Winnipeg, including a career-best 11 receptions for 146 yards in the teams’ first matchup of 2016.
