Toronto Argonauts To Receive Internationally Acclaimed ‘zonta Says No! Award’ In Recognition Of Make The Call Project

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is proud to announce that it will be the first recipient of the Zonta Says NO! Award – Area 2, which is an award endorsed by the United Nations.The Argonauts have been recognized, along with The White Ribbon Campaign and Status of Women Canada, for their work in creating Make the Call – A Gender Based Violence Prevention Project, presented by Tim Hortons, to help prevent men’s violence against women.

Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women Canada, Kellie Leitch, will be on-hand as Toronto Argonauts Director, Education & Community Programs, Jason Colero, accepts the award from representatives from Zonta on the field during the Argos’ upcoming home game against the Hamilton Tiger-Catson Saturday, October 25, 2014.

Commented Jason Colero, “On behalf of the Toronto Argonauts, I would like to thank members of Zonta for acknowledging the work of our team, as well as the tireless efforts put forth by our partners at The White Ribbon Campaign and Status of Women Canada. I would also like to thank Tim Hortons for their commitment to improving the lives of women and girls throughout our community. It is humbling to be recognized by an international body, especially one that is in partnership with the United Nations. We understand that there is still much to be done as we continue to build awareness and do our part to help end violence against women throughout the G.T.A.”

Zonta is an international professional women’s service organization committed to improving the lives of women and girls throughout the world. Their “Zonta Says NO!” campaign is an international campaign, in partnership with the United Nations, to raise awareness of and increase actions towards ending violence against women and girls around the world.  For the first year, Zonta clubs in Area 2 – Hamilton, Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton-Caledon and Toronto – will recognize individuals or organizations that are taking positive steps to end violence against women and girls.

Make the Call was inspired by the Argonauts’ other award winning community initiative – Huddle Up Bullying Prevention Program, presented by Tim Hortons. Through Make the Call, White Ribbon Campaign representatives and Argonauts players and alumni deliver positive and inspiring anti-violence messages and calls to action in secondary schools and communities across the GTA.
