Argos Release Noel Prefontaine

MISSISSAUGA – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced today that P/K Noel Prefontaine has been released by the club.

Commented Argonauts General Manager, Jim Barker, “We’d like to thank Noel for his professionalism and his winning attitude as a member of the Argonauts. As we continue building our team for long-term success these kinds of difficult decisions are necessary when looking at every part of our football club. Releasing a player like Noel is never easy but making this move, at this time, gives him a chance to explore all other CFL opportunities that may be available. We wish him continued success in the future.”

In seven regular season games in 2012, Prefontaine punted 44 times for 1,889 yards, 42.9 avg., was good on 10 of 15 field goal attempts and made 11 kickoffs for 702 yards. He holds Argonauts club records for kickoffs and kickoff yards in a career (632 for 37,250 yards, 58.9 avg.), as well as punts and punting yards (1,403 punts for 64,568 yards, 46.0 avg.), and is second all-time for most field goals made (248) and attempted (349).

Prefontaine has played in 235 career regular season games, 198 as an Argonaut, and won two Grey Cup championships, both in Double Blue. His CFL career numbers include 1,706 punts for 71,173 yards, 45.8 avg., he’s completed 72.6% of 457 field goal attempts, and has 859 kickoffs for 50,452 yards, 58.7 avg.
