2010: Attended training camp and waived by the Detroit Lions on August 9.

2009: Re-signed with the Miami Dolphins on January 14...Released by the Dolphins on August 24 and placed on waivers...Claimed off waivers by the Oakland Raiders (NFL) August 25 and released August 31... Signed to the Detroit Lions (NFL) practice squad on October 21 and later signed to the active roster on November 7... Played 7 games and recorded 9 tackles (6 solo tackles) and 1 QB sack. 

2008: Attended training camp with the 49ers and released by the San Francisco 49ers (NFL) August 23...Signed with the Miami Dolphins (NFL) practice squad on November 19.

 2007: Drafted in the fourth round (135^th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft...Attended training camp and placed on injured list on September 1 for remainder of season.

Played four seasons with the Florida Gators (2003-06)... 2006 Started 12 games at defensive tackle…Selected to play in the 2007 Hula Bowl…Saw action on the defensive line in the Gators’ Tostitos BCS National Championship Game victory over Ohio State…2005 Started the final nine games of the season at defensive end and saw action in all 12 contests…Made his first interception and collected the first sack of his career at LSU...2004 Started all 12 games at defensive end for 464 plays…Totalled two solo tackles in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl against Miami (Fla.)…2003 Played in 10 games...Saw time on offence in eight games for 76 plays…Saw his first career action vs. FAMU as an H-back.

Joseph’s parents are Sandra and Melvin Byrd and he enjoys watching Disney movies. He founded the James McGriff Football Camp in honour of his friend who passed away in high school.
