Selected by Toronto in the 3rd round (18th overall) in the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft.
The pick was originally acquired from Hamilton in 2009 as a conditional pick, along with a 3rd round choice in the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft and the negotiation rights to DL Cory Mace in exchange for WR Arland Bruce III. The 2010 third round choice eventually became WR Spencer Watt (through a series of other trades involving the pick).

2012: Did not dress in 2012…Added to team’s nine game injured list (broken leg) prior to week one.  Added to teams PR before Week 14…2012 Playoffs Did not dress any games, was placed on the Injured List… 2013 Grey Cup Did not dress, was placed on injured list.

2011: Dressed in 8 games with no starts for Toronto… Dressed at backup WR and played in weeks 1-4… Week 1, Made CFL debut (01/07/11) as backup WR and played ST in win at Calgary.

Played four years at the University of Montreal (2007-2010) under Marc Santerre…Finished career with 644 yards on 34 catches and 2 touchdowns in 24 games…Holds the record at the University of Montreal for most catches in a playoff game (9)…2010 Played in 9 games…caught 20 passes for 378 yards and 1 touchdown…Had 98 yards on 9 catches in 1 playoff game…2009 Played in 6 games…Had 8 catches for 151 yards…2008 Played in 7 games…Had 6 catches for 115 yards and one touchdown…2007 Played in 2 games.

Djems Kouame, pronounced GEMS KOO-AH-MEE, was born in Montreal and moved to Ottawa when he was two-years old. He attended St. Patrick’s High School in Ottawa. His mom is Miemouni and his dad is Aka and they immigrated to Canada from the Ivory Coast in the early 1980s. Djems has two older siblings; his brother, Malick, played football for the Ottawa Sooners and his sister, Jugigh, lives in France. Djems is a talented musician who can play piano, guitar and sing and is working toward producing his own record. He volunteers his time to a local Montreal community centre in the off-season and enjoys basketball and spending time at the gym. Djems was enrolled in the Arts & Sciences program at the University of Montreal.
