Robert is the son of Sarah McCune. He attended LeFlore High School, where he was a two-year letterman in football and a four-year letterman in track and field. In high school, he was also a power lifter and claimed back-to-back power lifting titles at LeFlore as a junior and senior. After graduating from LeFlore, he served three years in the United States National Guard where he spent six months stationed in Korea and six months in Kuwait. At Louisville, Robert was a two-sport athlete as he also competed on the university track and field team as a sprinter from 2002-03. He ran the first leg of the fourth and seventh fastest 4x100m relay teams in University of Louisville history and placed sixth-place at the Conference USA Championship. Robert majored in Education at Louisville and was named to the Fall Athletic Director’s Honour Roll.
