2011: Dressed in18 regular season games with no starts for Toronto... Week 4, Dressed at backup CB and played ST in loss vs. Winnipeg...Made 2 ST tackles...Week 5, Dressed at back CB and played ST scoring his first career TD in loss vs. Edmonton (29/07/11)...Scooped up a Damon Duval punt and raced it 81 yards for his first career touchdown then made a terrific ST tackle on the very next play, added 1 DT... Week 12, Dressed at backup CB and played ST in loss at Saskatchewan…Made 3 ST tackles...

Week 1, Had 1 ST tackle in season opener at Hamilton…subbed into game on defence, for CB Jordan Younger, during the second half… Week 2, Dressed at backup CB and played on special teams in loss vs. Saskatchewan… Made 2 ST tackles and returned 1 kickoff for 19 yards…Week 3, Dressed at backup CB and played on ST recording 1 ST tackle in loss at Calgary…Week 4, Started at punt returner (24/07/09) and was a backup CB in win at Winnipeg… Had 3 PR for 20 yards, LG 13, before leaving game at beginning of second quarter with shin injury… Week 5, Added to IR with leg injury… Weeks 6-7, On 46-man active roster but did not dress...Weeks 8-16, Added to practice roster…Week 17, Dressed as backup CB and played ST in loss at Edmonton… Made 1 ST tackle…Week 18, Dressed as backup CB in loss vs. Montreal.

2008: Drafted by Toronto in the 6th round, 45th overall, of the CFL Canadian Draft…Returned to school for final year of eligibility.

A four-year starter at Saginaw Valley State (2004-08)…2008 Named First-Team All-GLIAC…Selected to the Valero Cactus Bowl senior all-star game…Recorded 42 tackles, four pass breakups, ranked third in the GLIAC with five interceptions for 119 yards on the season, including 1 for a 19-yard TD…Earned GLIAC Player of the Week honours…East Coast Bowl in Petersburg, VA…2007 Played in 8 games…Named Academic All-Conference…Returned 12 punts for 91 yards...2006 Led the team with a 14.8-yard punt return average and ran back 8 kickoffs for 203 yards and a touchdown…Also posted an interception and 42 tackles…Named Second-Team All-GLIAC…2005 Started all games as a true freshman…2004 Redshirt freshman.

Matt’s parents, Marlane and Donovan, live in Toronto and he has two younger siblings, Eric, who is a football player at Saint Mary’s University, and Destiny. Matt spent the off-season participating in the Argos’ Huddle Up Bullying Prevention Program and making other community appearances.  He enjoys cooking and says his specialty is surf n’ turf. He played hockey, baseball and ran track at Northern Secondary School. While at Saginaw Valley, he was heavily involved in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, an athletic group focused on community involvement and initiatives. Black was an all-star member of the Metro Toronto Wildcats in the OVFL where he won the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Back award. He was also named Mid-Town Football MVP while attending Northern S.S. Matt studied Communications/Marketing at Saginaw Valley.
