Ian Sanderson
Assistant GM, Football Operations
Ian Sanderson is heading into his fifth season as the Club’s Assistant GM, Football Operations, and is a seasoned veteran of the Double Blue. Ian first joined the Club during its championship 1991 season, when the team went undefeated at home. He was responsible for the video operations of the club during training camp at Guelph and all of the home games. He continued in this role for three more years while he was attending York University, earning his B.Sc. in Physical Education and an Advanced Coaching Certificate. Following his graduation in spring 1995, Sanderson joined the Argos on a full time basis, as the Club’s Video Director and Administration Assistant. Ian was loyal to the club through many challenges, gaining valuable experience and insight into the operations of a CFL franchise.
Legendary coach Don Matthews promoted Sanderson in 1996 to Assistant Director of Football Operations, a role where he was vital in running the football operations department. Ian was a part of the team’s Grey Cup victories in 1996, 1997 and 2004.
Currently, Ian is responsible for the overall operations of the Argos on the football side; including team travel, contracts, salary management system, budgets, immigration, scouting administration and training camp. While his role with the club keeps him quite busy, he enjoys playing hockey and softball in his spare time, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his wife Shelley and his new son Logan.
