2013 ARGOS CHEERLEADER AUDITIONS

 

We want you! Now is your chance to cheer for the 100th Grey Cup Champions, Toronto Argonauts and be a part of the Canadian Football League’s most exciting and established cheerleading team. On the field, you will capture the attention of close to 30,000 Argos fans at Rogers Centre. This is your opportunity to represent your city, support meaningful charity events and act as a role model for many young girls. 

 

Audition Information:

Preliminary/Round #1

DATE:  Sunday March 24, 2013

TIME:  Registration at 1:00 p.m.

         Auditions commence at 2:00 p.m.

LOCATION:  Canada’s National Ballet School

                 400 Jarvis St., Toronto, ON M4Y 2G6

Finals/Round #2

DATE:  Saturday, March 30, 2013

TIME:  Registration at 12:00pm        

         Auditions commence at 1:00pm

LOCATION:  Scarborough Town Centre

                  300 Borough Dr  Scarborough, ON M1P 4P5

 

ATTIRE:

· Dance/workout wear - sports bra and shorts only (your midriff must be exposed, no baggy pants or leggings).

· Running shoes.

· Camera-ready hair and makeup (hair must be worn down).

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform on the field at all Toronto Argonauts home games.
  • Opportunity to travel to select away games (Hamilton, Montreal).
  • Represent the Toronto Argonauts Football Club in the community, meet our fans and participate in many local charity events.
  • Support Toronto Argonauts community programs.
  • Represent the Argos Cheerleaders at the 101st Grey Cup Festival in Saskatchewan.
  • Appear in promotional items such as the Argos Cheerleaders Calendar.
  • Opportunity to appear on local and national television and radio shows, as well as digital and print media.
  • Bring smiles to members of the Jr. Cheer program.
  • Pose for pictures and sign autographs before, during and after each home game.
  • Educate fans and potential fans about all the Argonauts have to offer!

 

 

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age by June 1, 2013.
  • Must be a high school graduate as of June 1, 2013.
  • 2-3 years minimum dance experience (jazz, hip hop, street jazz, tumbling is an asset).
  • Physically fit, athletic and healthy.
  • Outgoing and enthusiastic personality.
  • Available for a scheduled one on one interview the week of March 25, 2013 at our downtown office.
  • Must attend ALL home games – Arrival time at the stadium is between 3 to 5 hours before kickoff.  Argos Cheerleaders are required to attend the team’s official post-game party following each home game.
  • Must be able to attend ALL rehearsals for the entire season (Practices are 2 times per week, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. starting April 10, 2013).
  • Must participate in a minimum of 20 promotions throughout the season.
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to get to all rehearsals, promotions and games.
  • Must be available for mandatory Cheerleader Boot Camp in April (Dates TBD).
  • Must be available for Grey Cup Festival in Regina November 20-25, 2013)
  • A current headshot and resume must be submitted on the day of auditions. Photo is strictly for identification purposes and will not be returned.
  • A non-refundable audition fee of $20 to be submitted day of auditions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

WHAT WILL THE JUDGES LOOK FOR?

Appearance: Physical fitness, confidence, poise, a neat and polished presentation.

Dance Skills: Strong dancers and performers, crowd pleasing, style, technique.

Showmanship: Smile, eye contact.

Personality: Outgoing, enthusiastic, professional, ability to be a “team player”.

 

IS BEING AN ARGOS CHEERLEADER A FULL-TIME JOB?

No, most Cheerleaders hold part-time or full-time jobs and/or go to school.

 

DO ARGOS CHEERLEADERS RECEIVE COMPENSATION?

Cheerleaders receive a small honorarium for each home game but are not compensated for rehearsals. Opportunities for paid appearances are available throughout the season. 

Cheerleaders may also be compensated with:

  • Tickets to Toronto Argonauts home games.
  • Discounts on makeup and hair products.
  • Gym membership.
  • Bags and suitcases.
  • Shoes and boots.
  • Team clothing.

 

ARE THERE ANY HEIGHT & WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?

We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements; however, we are looking for athletic girls in good physical condition.

 

ARE THERE ANY AGE REQUIREMENTS?

You must be at least 19 years of age by June 1, 2013. Recent ages of cheerleaders have ranged from 19 to 32.

 

HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED?

You will receive an email stating that your application was processed. Please wait until one week prior to auditions and, if you have not received this email, please contact us at cheerleaders@argonauts.ca.

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO PRELIMINARIES?

Please come with:

  • Valid driver’s license or passport.
  • $20 registration fee (non-refundable).
  • Current resume and headshot. The headshot will not be returned and does not have to be a professional photo.
  • Personal care items required for the audition including makeup, hair brushes, etc.
  • Lunch, snacks and lots of water…It will be a long day!

 

DO CURRENT SQUAD MEMBERS HAVE TO RE-AUDITION?

Yes. All members (excluding Captains) must go through the audition process each season and are not guaranteed a spot.

 

IF I DO NOT MAKE THE TEAM, WILL MY APPLICATION BE KEPT ON FILE?

No. You must re-apply each year with a new application, photo, and application processing fee.

 

IF I AM NOT SELECTED FOR THE TEAM, MAY I CALL/EMAIL THE TORONTO ARGONAUTS OFFICE TO RECEIVE MY JUDGES’ COMMENTS?

No. The judges’ sheets are not kept on file and comments about your audition are not made available.

 

CAN MY FAMILY/FRIENDS WATCH AUDITIONS?

No.  Auditions are closed to the public.

 

WHAT IS CHEERLEADER BOOT CAMP?

It is designed to teach the 2013 Argos Cheerleaders about the history of the Toronto Argonauts Football Club, how the Argonauts function within each department and how their role as a Cheerleader will impact the Argonauts and the community. As well, we will go into detail about the Cheerleader Contract, be fitted for new uniforms and, most importantly, get to know your new team mates!
