ARGOS SIGN HANNAH, HODGE AND LEWIS ON DEFENCE

February 25, 2009

Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club has strengthened its defence by adding LB Nick Hannah, CB Alphonso Hodge and CB Reggie Lewis.

Hannah made his CFL debut in 2007 as a backup linebacker for the B.C. Lions. In five games, he recorded five tackles, two fumble recoveries and played on special teams. In 2008, the speedy defender, whose 40-yard dash time has been clocked at 4.45 seconds, played in the Indoor American Football League for the Arizona Adrenaline. Hannah graduated from Eastern Oregon University in 2005 and attended Indianapolis Colts’ training camp as an undrafted free agent. He was re-signed by the Colts in 2006 and assigned to Bart Andrus’ Amsterdam Admirals. In Europe, Hannah racked-up 19 tackles and led the league in special teams tackles with 12.

Alphonso Hodge comes to Toronto with a reputation as an outstanding pass defender who can punish a receiver. In 2008, Hodge joined the practice squad of the Cleveland Gladiators (AFL) before being activated eight games into the season. He went on to amass 60 tackles and one interception. Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL) in the fifth round out of Miami University (OH), he spent his first year on the club’s practice roster. He later attended training camp with the New York Jets.

Lewis is familiar to NCAA football fans who witnessed the University of Florida take down Ohio State in the 2006 BCS National Championship. Recruited as a receiver who transitioned to cornerback as a junior, the two-year starter contributed to the win by picking off a Troy Smith pass. Lewis spent 2008 on the Tampa Bay Storm’s (AFL) practice roster. He entered professional football when he signed with the Buffalo Bills (NFL) as an undrafted free agent and attended their training camp in 2007.
