Mississauga – Although his surname suggests otherwise, Argos fans should be excited by the addition of big, new Toronto Argonauts import receiver Derrick Hamilton.
Originally from Dillon, South Carolina, Hamilton attended Clemson University where he spent four years starring at receiver for the Tigers. Among his highlights were the back-to-back seasons when he led the Atlantic Coast Conference in all purpose yardage (2002-03) - a feat accomplished only other time by ex-NFL RB Tiki Barber. The 6’4”, 207-pound specimen started 27 of 38 games, totalled 2,312 receiving yards and scored 16 touchdowns on 167 receptions. He also played in two bowl games, the 2001 Humanitarian Bowl and the 2002 Tangerine Bowl.
A former 3rd round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers, Hamilton played two games over two seasons in San Francisco before signing with the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans and most recently the Denver Broncos.
