TORONTO -- It's one hundred years of Grey Cup lore packed into 116 beautiful pages - and it's on sale now.
The Special Edition 100th Grey Cup Magazine just landed at 6,000 newsstands, convenience stores and bookstores as part of the celebration that's building across the country.
"Here you'll find the story of the Grey Cup's evolution into a Canadian icon," said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League. "It's an era by era account of the great players, classic games and passionate fans who have made the Grey Cup an important part of what it means to be Canadian."
The magazine also includes a congratulatory letter from Her Majesty the Queen, who acknowledges that the Grey Cup trophy, presented each year to the CFL champions, was first donated in 1909 by Earl Grey, then Governor General, and that another trophy donated by a Governor General, the Vanier Cup, will also be awarded to the football champions of Canadian Interuniversity Sport on the final weekend in November in Toronto.
"It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to strive to tell the story of the Grey Cup in a way that's truly worthy of this great Canadian tradition and yet is still affordable for the average fan," said Cliff Kivell, the publisher of CFL Illustrated. "And we added a section that looks to the future of the CFL because we believe it's as bright as the history is colourful. This truly has been a labour of love."
Retailing at $9.99, the only officially licensed CFL Magazine for the 100th Grey Cup is available at Indigo and Chapters, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, London Drugs, 7-11, Macs Milk, Presse Commerce, Gateway outlets at major airports, and several other locations, with fully bilingual editorial content.
The magazine will also serve as the official programme of the 100th Grey Cup game in Toronto.
