Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is thrilled to welcome former Cincinnati Bearcats’ QB Zach Collaros and former Florida International University standout WR Chandler Williams. Collaros, who signed through 2013, finished his final university exam earlier this week and then boarded a plane for Toronto shortly afterward. Williams, who comes to the Argos from the AFL, has also signed through the 2013 season.
Collaros made only four starts as a sophomore at Cincinnati but he made the most of them throwing for 1,434 yards and 10 touchdowns. That was enough to earn him a starting job the next season and beyond. He would go onto throw for 2,902 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2010, and 1,934 yards and 15 touchdowns (1st in Big East) in 2011. After an impressive college career, Collaros was invited to a mini-camp with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then returned to school and to write his final examinations.
Upon leaving Florida International University in 2006, Chandler Williams was the school’s career leader in receptions and receiving yards. He comes to Toronto after spending portions of five seasons in the National Football League after being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round (233rd overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. In doing so, he became just the second player in FIU history to be drafted into the NFL. Most recently, Williams played in the Arena Football League for the Tampa Bay Storm, where he recorded 56 receptions for 671 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.
