TORONTO - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that is has signed five import players today including SuperBowl champion LB Gregory Jones, veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps DB Otha Foster, DB Mikail Baker, DB Markelle Martin and WR Tray Session.
Gregory Jones burst onto the NFL scene in 2011 after being drafted in the 6th round (185th overall) by the New York Giants. Playing in 16 games in his rookie season, Jones started multiple times at linebacker for the Giants totalling 31 tackles. Jones also played in all four playoff games for New York in 2011 and dressed for the Giants’ 21-17 Super Bowl XLVI win over the New England Patriots. A stand-out at Michigan State, Jones became the first Spartan to earn back-to-back consensus First Team All-American honours (2009-2010). Jones most recently spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2013 season.
Mikail Baker most recently spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the 7th round (216th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft. Prior to being drafted, Baker was a six-year collegiate player out of Baylor from 2005 to 2010 where he became the record holder for all-time yardage on kick returns (83 kick returns for 1,963 yards). In his time at Baylor, Baker played both offence and defence, suiting up at wide receiver from 2005-2008 before transitioning to the defensive side of the ball during 2009 fall camp.
Markelle Martin spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the Tennessee Titans after being drafted by the club in the 6th round (190th overall) by the club in the 2012 NFL Draft. A four-year man at Oklahoma State, Martin had his best collegiate season in his senior year when he played 13 games, totalling 74 tackles, 11 pass knockdowns and 2 forced fumbles. While at Oklahoma State, Martin was the recipient of OSU’s Nate Fleming Award for his academic performance.
Otha Foster joins the Argos after spending part of 2013 as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. While with Kansas City, Foster appeared in three pre-season games totalling 5 tackles. During his collegiate career, Foster attended both West Alabama (2011-12) and Pearl River Community College (2009-10). His best season was in 2012 with West Alabama where he finished with 54 tackles, 12 passes defended, six interceptions and one 41-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. When Foster left high school in 2007, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Lance Corporal as a communications expert. He continued to serve in the Marine Corps while playing football for two years at Pearl River C.C.
Tray Session was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oakland Raiders in 2013 and appeared in two pre-season games. Prior to the NFL, Session was a four-year wide receiver at Nevada from 2007 to 2011. His most productive season came in 2009 when he played in 11 games, totalling 30 receptions for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns. Session is the younger brother of Samie Parker, a former Oregon Ducks star who played for five NFL teams and attended Toronto Argonauts training camp 2012.
