TORONTO – Toronto Argonauts’ Head Coach Marc Trestman announced today the appointment of Corey Chamblin as the team’s Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach, and Marcus Brady as the team’s Offensive Coordinator.
“I could not be more excited and grateful to have Corey and Marcus join our staff in their respective positions,” said Trestman. “These two men have not only established themselves as premier coaches in our league, their character and integrity as fathers, husbands, leaders and teachers makes this even more exciting for our entire organization, and of course, our players.”
Chamblin, a two-time Grey Cup Champion, joins the Argonauts with nine years of coaching experience in the CFL. The 2013 CFL Coach of the Year spent four years as the head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2012-15), leading the team to three playoff appearances and a 45-13 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 101st Grey Cup at home in Regina.
“The opportunity to work with Marc for an organization with such a storied tradition like the Argonauts is such an honour and amazing opportunity,” said Chamblin. “I look forward to getting know the entire staff and our players over the coming months as we prepare for the season. Together, we will build a defence that our fans will be proud of. One that plays fast, plays hard, and plays smart. I can’t wait to get started.”
Prior to being hired as the head coach of the Riders, Chamblin spent four seasons as a defensive backs coach with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2007) and Calgary Stampeders (2008-10), and one season as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2011). He won his first Grey Cup as a member of the Stampeders coaching staff in 2008. During his nine years in the CFL, Chamblin has coached 14 CFL All-Stars and 26 Divisional All-Stars, including three-time CFL All-Star DB Brandon Browner and three-time CFL All-Star OL Brandon LaBatte.
Brady returns for his fifth season as the Argonauts’ Offensive Coordinator while being re-united with Marc Trestman, who he coached under from 2009-12 with the Montreal Alouettes. In four seasons together in Montreal, Trestman and Brady led the Alouettes to back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 2009 and 2010, while their offences ranked in the top four in yards per game, points per game, passing yards per game and sacks allowed per game in all four seasons.
“Working for Marc in Montreal for four years was one of the most rewarding times of my career,” said Brady. “Marc was instrumental to my early development as a coach. And now to have another opportunity to work with him and a Hall of Fame calibre quarterback like Ricky Ray, while returning to the city of Toronto and the Argos, is truly a blessing. Our familiarity with each other will only help as we prepare our offence for the upcoming season.”
In four seasons as the Argos’ offensive coordinator, Brady’s offences have led the CFL in passing touchdowns three times, passing yards twice, and have ranked in the top three in points per game and turnovers twice. During his four-year tenure as offensive coordinator, only two other CFL offences have totalled more passing yards than the Argos.
