Coombs extends stay in Toronto

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts announced today that the club has signed Canadian running back / slotback Anthony Coombs to a contract extension through 2018.

Coombs, a 5-9, 190-pound, native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was selected by the Argonauts third overall in the 2014 CFL Draft. The University of Manitoba product has hauled in 115 passes for 997 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 29 times for 159 yards and a touchdown in 39 CFL games.

The versatile and elusive back has also returned 16 kickoffs for 296 yards in three seasons with the Argos.

Prior to being selected by the Argonauts in 2014, Coombs spent four years at the University of Manitoba, where he racked up 2,232 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns to go along with 51 receptions for 840 yards and 11 touchdowns. He finished his CIS career ranked 7th all-time in touchdowns and holds a conference record with a 107-yard touchdown run. He was a three-time Canada West All-Star, two-time CIS First Team All-Canadian (2011, 2013) and was named the Bisons’ 2013 Athlete of the Year.
