Post-Game Notes: Week 18 at Calgary

TALE OF THE GAME

  • The Toronto Argonauts dropped to 5-12 on the season in a 31-13 loss to the league-leading Calgary Stampeders, who improve to 15-1-1 and a perfect 9-0 at home on the campaign.
  • In his first start since Week 11 at Hamilton, Ricky Ray completed 28-of-42 pass attempts for 311 yards and one touchdown. Ray led the team on a five play, 75-yard touchdown drive to open the game but was unable to manufacture any additional majors.

WORTH NOTING

  • Ricky Ray’s passing total (311) moved his career total with the Argonauts to 14,108, moving past Damon Allen (13,974) into second in team history. He now sits 2,511 yards behind Condredge Holloway for the top mark as an Argo.
  • Ray’s 42 pass attempts in the game gave him 1,724 in his career, also moving past Allen (1,713) into second on the Argos all-time list.
  • Kenny Shaw hauled in eight passes for 112 yards against Calgary, moving within 40 receiving yards of the Argos first 1,000-yard season since Chad Owens in 2012. Shaw has totaled 75 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns this season.
  • Shaw has led Argonauts receivers on seven different occasions in 2016 and has now recorded three 100-yard games.
  • Brandon Whitaker made eight receptions in Friday’s game, surpassing his previous career-high and becoming the first CFL running back to record 75+ receptions in a single season since Andrew Harris (75) in 2012. Through 17 games, Whitaker has totaled 527 yards and three touchdowns on 77 receptions in his second season with the Argos.
  • Devier Posey made his first career CFL start on offence Friday night, posting a total of 62 receiving yards on three receptions in the contest.
  • Lirim Hajrullahu connected on both of his field goal attempts in the game, moving him within four field goals of a career-high for the Western product. Hajrullahu has been successful on 36-of-41 field goal attempts through 17 games, registering a personal best 87.8% success rate.
  • Ben Malena made his second appearance for the Argonauts since signing with the team in September. The Texas A&M product recorded his first career special teams tackle while adding five rushing yards on a single carry.
  • Thomas Gordon posted a season-high seven tackles in the contest, giving the first-year Michigan product a total of 34 stops in 13 games this season.
