TALE OF THE GAME

  • The Toronto Argonauts dropped to 5-10 on the season with a home loss to the CFL-leading Calgary Stampeders (13-1-1).
  • The Argos outscored the Stampeders 14-13 in the second half but were unable to overcome Calgary’s 35-6 first-half lead.
  • In his first home start as an Argo, quarterback Drew Willy completed 26-of-31 pass attempts for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Willy’s 83.9% completion percentage ranks eighth in the Argonauts single-game history.

WORTH NOTING

  • 2016 CFL Draft picks Brian Jones (1st Round, 4th Overall) and Llevi Noel (4th Round, 31st Overall) each made their first career CFL start on Monday afternoon. Jones made five receptions for 39 yards in his debut on offence, while Noel hauled in a single pass.
  • Noel continued his excellence as a cover specialist, making two special teams tackles in the contest to move his season total to 18. The Toronto native now ranks third in the CFL in special teams tackles through 15 games.
  • Justin Hickman recorded his third sack in two games, stripping Bo Levi Mitchell while bringing him down for the UCLA product’s 40th career sack in the CFL.
  • Hickman blocked his second punt of the season in the fourth quarter, joining Winnipeg’s Derek Jones as the only players in the league with multiple blocked kicks in 2016.
  • Kenny Shaw led all Argos in receiving for the sixth time this season, recording 70 yards and his fifth touchdown reception of the campaign on six receptions.
  • Ben Malena rushed three times for 15 yards and caught two passes for three receiving yards in his CFL debut.
  • Devier Posey caught one pass for 12 yards, adding 101 return yards on six kickoff returns in his CFL debut.
  • Marcus Alford made his first career fumble recovery on Monday, picking up a Jerome Messam fumble early in the second quarter to set up an Argos field goal.
