TALE OF THE GAME

  • The Toronto Argonauts dropped to 4-6 on the season in a 49-36 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 46th Labour Day Classic between the two teams.
  • The Argos and Ticats combined for 85 points in the contest, setting a new Labour Day record, breaking the previous mark of 84 set by the two clubs in the 1988 Labour Day Classic.

WORTH NOTING

  • In his 50th career start for the Argos, Ricky Ray opened the game by completing his first 17 passes. It was the second straight game that Ray opened the contest with 14 or more consecutive completions.
  • Ricky Ray ended the contest with 385 passing yards, giving him his first 300-yard passing game of 2016 and his fourth career 300-yard game on Labour Day Weekend. With his 12th completion of the game, Ray eclipsed the 3,000-yard mark on Labour Day, becoming the first quarterback in CFL history to hit that mark.
  • Tori Gurley recorded a career-high eight receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns in the game, recording his first career two-touchdown game in the CFL.
  • Thomas Gordon recorded a defensive triple-crown in the first quarter, sacking Zach Collaros, stripping the Tiger-Cats quarterback, and picking up the ball to take it back to the end zone for a 57-yard score.
  • Lirim Hajrullahu hit all three of his field goal attempts on Monday night, moving his consecutive field goal streak to 11. The stretch makes Hajrullahu the sixth kicker in Argos history to record a streak of 11 or more successful field goals.
  • Diontae Spencer hauled in eight catches for 132 yards in his first career Labour Day Classic. It was the second-year receiver’s second 100-yard game since his Week 8 return against Winnipeg, and the third time in four games that he’s led the Argos receiving corps in yards.
  • Shawn Lemon extended his sack streak to three games on Monday, giving the Argos defensive end eight takedowns in eight games with the Boatmen.
  • Argos RB Brandon Whitaker had a total of 89 yards on the night. The second-year Argonaut had four carries of 10+ yards giving him a CFL-leading 21 such carries on the season.
  • 2016 CFL Draft pick Brian Jones blocked his first career punt on Monday, tallying the Argos first blocked kick since James Yurichuk on October 4, 2014 vs. Hamilton.
  • DB Josh Mitchell returned to action on Monday, registering five defensive tackles on the night. Mitchell had a total of eight tackles, seven defensive and one special teams, in the Argos first meeting with the Ticats bringing his total to 13 in two games against Hamilton.
