TALE OF THE GAME

  •  On the Argos first offensive possession, Ricky Ray found Brandon Whitaker on a check down pass. The completion gave Ray 21 passing yards on the night and 53,257 in his career, moving him past Danny McManus (53,255) and into fourth place on the CFL’s all-time passing yards list. Ray found Whitaker for a second milestone in the third quarter as the two connected for the veteran QB’s 78th passing touchdown as an Argo. The score gives Ray sole possession of second on the team’s all-time passing touchdowns list. Ray finished the night against Ottawa with 249 passing yards and one touchdown on 24-of-32 passing, a 75% completion percentage.
  •   The Argonauts defensive line caused problems in the Ottawa backfield all game, racking up a season-high three sacks. Justin Hickman and Shawn Lemon each recorded their first sacks in Double Blue, while Ken Bishop recorded his second sack in as many games.
  •  Redblacks receiver Chris Williams was held to 63 receiving yards on six receptions by the Argos defence. It was the first game this season that Williams was held under 130 yards and his first contest without a touchdown.

WORTH NOTING

  • Anthony Coombs scored the Argos first rushing touchdown of 2016 on a first-quarter run; it was also the first rushing touchdown of his career.
  • Justin Hickman brought down Trevor Harris during the first quarter for his first sack in Double Blue and the 37th of his career. On the ensuing play, Shawn Lemon recorded his first sack as an Argo, giving him 29 career sacks in the CFL.
  • Cody Fajardo scored his first career CFL touchdown on a quarterback sneak during the second quarter; it was his third carry of his brief career.
  • Keon Raymond had five tackles on the night, giving him the team lead with 23 stops through four games (5.8 avg).
  • Llevi Noel added three more special teams tackles to his season total. The 2016 CFL Draft pick now leads the Argonauts with eight special teams tackles through four games.
  • Kenny Shaw finished the night with seven receptions for 94 yards, falling six yards short of his second 100-yard game of the season. The Florida State product is the only Argos receiver to record a 100-yard receiving game in 2016.
  • Jermaine Gabriel and AJ Jefferson  each had a team-high of six defensive tackles in both players’ return to the Argonauts lineup.  Ken Bishop tied a team-high in tackles (5) on Wednesday in the defensive tackle’s third CFL game. He added his second sack in the last two games to move into a tie for the team lead with fellow DT Bryan Hall.
