Jacob Hoggard To sing National Anthem at Argos home opener

Jacob Hoggard, the lead singer of multi-platinum Canadian pop group Hedley, will help usher in the next era of Toronto Argonauts football by singing ‘O Canada’ as part of the special pre-game ceremonies in advance of the Argos historic home opener at the newly-renovated BMO Field this Thursday.

It will also be a historic occasion for ‘O Canada’ as Hoggard’s rendition of the national anthem will include the lyrics “in all of us command”, marking the first time the new version of ‘O Canada’ will have been sung live on broadcast at a major sporting event.

Hoggard’s many roles at the helm include creative director, songwriter, producer, music video director, and consummate performer.

With six studio albums selling a combined million-plus, alongside four million singles, Hedley has long been at the forefront of the Canadian pop music scene. Add to their accolades and accomplishments a pair of JUNOs, 11 MuchMusic Video Awards, three SOCAN Awards, 17 #1 Much videos, and 60 million online video views, and their place in the Canadian cultural landscape is firmly cemented.

The national anthem, which will be aired as part of TSN’s coverage of the pre-game ceremonies, will also include the Royal Regiment of Canada and the 48th Highlander Regiment flag party and honour guard, and a flyover from a Royal Canadian Airforce CC 130 Hercules aircraft from the 436 Squadron.

The pre-game ceremonies will include a performance by a 350-piece Toronto Argonauts ceremonial marching band comprised of musicians from across Southern Ontario. They will perform alongside the Argos Cheer Team and 200 additional dancers.

Argo greats Damon Allen, Pinball Clemons, Rocket Ismail and Joe Theismann will participate in the ceremonial coin toss.
