Argos sign four 2016 Draft picks

The Toronto Argonauts have signed 2016 CFL Draft picks: Declan Cross, Chris Kolankowski, Ryan Nieuwesteeg and Curtis Newton, the club announced today.

Cross spent four seasons at McMaster prior to being selected with the first pick in the fourth round (27th overall) of the 2016 CFL Draft. The 5-11, 230-pound, native of Oakville, Ontario, had 18 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns while catching 21 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown as a fullback with the Marauders. He helped the Marauders to a Yates Cup Championship in 2012.

Kolankowski, a 6-2, 292-pound, native of Etobicoke, Ontario, played four seasons at York University where he started all eight contests for the Lions in 2015. He was selected by the Argos in the sixth round (49th overall) of the 2016 CFL Draft.

Nieuwesteeg, selected by the Argonauts in the eighth round (66th overall), caught 10 passes for 168 yards and returned 70 kicks for 1,102 return yards, including a 79-yard return touchdown with the Gryphons in 2015. The 5-8, 170-pound, native of Niagara Falls, Ontario was named a second-team OUA All-Star.

Newton, a 6-2, 220-pound, native of London, Ontario, notched 139 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, seven quarterback sacks, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and six pass breakups while assisting the Gryphons to the 2015 Yates Cup Championship. The a two-time OUA-All-Star and 2014 second-team CIS All-Canadian was selected in the fifth round (40th overall) of the 2016 CFL Draft.
