Chad Owens Named Cfl Special Teams Player Of The Week!

Toronto – Chad Owens had one of the greatest regular seasons in pro football history, and he saved arguably his best special teams performance for the biggest stage to date. The 2012 East Division Most Outstanding Player accumulated a total of 157 yards on all kick returns and scored his first special teams touchdown of the year in the Argos’ 42-26 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in Sunday’s Eastern Semi-Final.

At 11:38 of the second quarter, Owens pulled in a Grant Shaw punt in full stride and made multiple defenders miss on his way to the 59-yard score. In the process, he gave his team a lead that they would not relinquish. This is Owens’ second CFL Player of the Week honour of 2012 (Offensive, Week 10). It is also Owens’ seventh Special Teams Player of the Week honour (first since Week 10 of 2011) and the ninth overall in his career. 

Owens and his teammates now head to Montreal to compete in the Eastern Final this Sunday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m., the winner will move on to represent the East Division in the 100th Grey Cup championship on November 25 in Toronto. The Flyin’ Hawaiian has a history of playing well against the Alouettes and Montreal (McGill Stadium) happens to be where he scored his last punt return touchdown in Week 15 of the 2011 season.
