TORONTO – As you already know, on Thursday night Chad Owens etched his name into CFL history breaking Michael “Pinball” Clemons’ record for most combined yards in a single season.  The Flyin’ Hawaiian did it with a 29-yard kickoff return against Hamilton midway through the second quarter.

An enthused Owens was quick to deflect the spotlight towards his teammates.

“This record is a testament to a season-long body of work by my teammates and coaches. I would like to thank my family for always supporting me and all of the sacrifices they’ve made to get us to this point. It’s an honour to play this game and follow in the footsteps of great men like Michael Clemons who came before me. I feel fortunate and blessed to be in this position today and I’m so happy to have been able to do this at home in front of our fans,” he said.

In addition to this record breaking achievement, Owens also accomplished something that no CFL player has ever done as he is the first player in CFL history to lead the league in both receiving yards and kick return yards in the same season.

Owens’ 1,328 receiving yards and 1,588 kick return yards are good for tops in the league in both categories, finishing ahead of Saskatchewan’s Weston Dressler in receiving and Winnipeg’s Demond Washington in kick return yards.

In a season that has seen Chad break multiple Argos and CFL records, leading the CFL in both these categories just adds to his list of accomplishments which include:

– Passing Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons for most combined yards in a single season

-The first player to lead the league in both Receiving and Kick Return Yards

-Broke Argos single game combined yards total, totaling 402-yard in week ten versus Hamilton

-First Argos player to lead the league in receiving since Darrell Mitchell in 1998.
