ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF

TORONTO – In a game that saw the Toronto Argonauts clinch a home match in the 100th Grey Cup Playoffs, earning the right to host the Eastern Semi-Final game, two different members of the Double Blue earned CFL Player of the Week honours!  QB Ricky Ray and SB Andre Durie have received CFL Offensive Player of the Week and CFL Canadian Player of the Week honours, respectively.

Ricky Ray had his second-straight strong performance for the Argonauts since returning from injury, passing for 305 yards while completing 24 of 30 passes. Ray also threw four (4) touchdowns with just a single interception.  He found three different receivers on his touchdown passes, hooking up with Maurice Mann, Chad Owens, and twice finding fellow player of the week, Andre Durie.

Ray’s completion percentage was once again stellar as he completed 80% of his passes, tied for the sixth-best single game completion percentage in team history, against the Riders. He now boasts a 68.6% completion percentage in 2012 which, if it holds true through the final week of the year, will be the best single season completion percentage in Argos history (Kerwin Bell , 67.3% in 1998). Ray is red-hot heading into the post-season, throwing 8 TD passes and for 688 yards in his past two games.

Andre Durie was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Ray’s huge game as he found the end zone twice against the Riders.  Ray and Durie hooked up for two separate touchdowns, the first coming on a 7-yard swing pass in the first quarter, and the second coming at the end of a long 12-play scoring drive that took over four (4) minutes off the clock near the end of the first half.  Durie finished the game with six (6) receptions for 60 yards.  This is Durie’s third-career CFL Canadian Player of the Week honour (week 8 of 2010 and week 19 of 2011).

Durie’s two (2) touchdown performance was the first of its kind in 2012 for the native of Mississauga, Ontario, and only the second time in his career he has found paydirt twice in one game.  The last time Durie accomplished this feat was in the final week of 2011 when he recorded two (2) touchdowns against Hamilton on November 3 at Rogers Centre. He now has four touchdowns in his last three games.

The Toronto Argonauts play their final game of the 2012 CFL regular season on Thursday, November 1 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at 7:30 p.m. at Rogers Centre for Fan Appreciation Night.  Then, the Double Blue will host their first home playoff game since 2007, the Eastern Semi-Final, on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets for both games are available by calling (416) 341-ARGO (2746) or by visiting ticketmaster.ca .
