Robertson & Belli Earn Cfl Weekly Honours

Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate RB Jamal Robertson, who was named CFL Offensive Player of the Week, and DT Adriano Belli, who was named CFL Canadian Player of the Week for their efforts during the Argos’ 30-17 Canada Day win in Hamilton.

Robertson had an outstanding season debut at Ivor Wynne Stadium. He amassed a single-game career-high 200 combined yards (134 rushing yards, 53 receiving yards, 13 kickoff return yards) and 1 touchdown while racing to his second career 100+ yard CFL game. His power on the ground helped Toronto’s offence explode to a 23-10 lead by the end of the first half. This is Robertson’s first-ever CFL Player of the Week award.

In his 37th career start with the Argos, Belli also had an impressive performance recording his first two sacks of 2009, which matched his season total from 2008, and three defensive tackles. The Toronto native was like a raging bull while fighting his way through Hamilton’s o-line and putting direct pressure on Quinton Porter or drawing attention away from his line-mates long enough to set them loose in the Ticats’ backfield. His high energy game was contagious during CFL Week 1 and it has earned him the first CFL Player of the Week honour of his career.

Fans can watch Robertson and Belli take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Argonauts’ 2009 Home Opener this Saturday, July 11 at Rogers Centre; kickoff is 1:00 p.m. ET. For tickets, please click here.

The Toronto Argonauts also announced today that LB Richard Seigler has been released.
